Powell Avenue

(written November 14, 2016)

I wanna take you to see

What I wrote on the wall

When I was very small

I was three

Walk you right up to the blue

Out on Powell Avenue

That's the door I went through

I was free

That was the last time I felt

Like I do in your spell

Like I'm loved very well

Just by thee

I walked around, stumbled some

And my father would hum

And he'd whistle at birds

In the trees

This is the place you can see

Where my mom carried me

Into life, into love

I was me

Right here's the spot where I drew

All the things that I knew

And that now includes you

You're with me
