Presenting EVERYONE MEET HERE: The Film!

Ok folks, this is a big moment for me. I'm thrilled to finally rise from the editor's chair and bring you EVERYONE MEET HERE: The Film! This feature length documentary, shot almost entirely on Taryn's Flipcam, covers the writing, recording and release of my fifth record, EVERYONE MEET HERE and the lives of the people involved at that time (autumn 2011). Taryn Sprenkle and I developed the concept and shot most of the footage (with a little help from our friends) and are proud to make our directorial debut together with this film.

In Part 1 of the film, Tokyo Quest and I discuss our first decade of playing the "singer-songwriter game" and how our goals have shifted. Some more friends then join in to introduce the album and discuss the songs I Woke Up Alone, Military Man, Conflict Is King, Song For Next Autumn and Still Not Gettin' Along. We also explain our love for used vinyl and classic music of the 60s and 70s.

In Part 2, my friends and I discuss the songs Zombietown, I Could Never Be A Preacher, I Can Watch My Lover Dream, The Institution and I Can't Hate You, Brother. You'll also experience a full day in the studio working on Zac Yurkovic's debut EP, The Love Bucket and hear Taryn Sprenkle explain the influence of Michael Jackson on her life and songwriting. Finally, we all summarize the album and its potential impact on the world.

"Song For Next Autumn" Official Video Premiere

I'm thrilled to bring you the second single from EVERYONE MEET HERE, "Song For Next Autumn"! I'm very proud of this song, and it's been made a miracle by my mother, author and subtle activist Lynda Terry, who made her recording debut singing the harmonies. My mother suffered a series of heart attacks last August and was diagnosed with a rare condition known as SCAD (Spontaneous Coronary Artery Dissection). After beginning the long road to recovery, she and I devised a plan for her to sing in the studio, thereby checking that feat off her "bucket list." The joyful experience of singing proved to be a turning point in her healing process. Sometimes we forget just how powerful the expression of love in song can be.

In light of the fact that February 3, 2012 is National Wear Red Day and the American Heart Association is promoting the Go Red For Women campaign, I thought it appropriate to use this video as an opportunity to spread the word about SCAD and heart health in general.

To The Amazing Little Girl Who Appeared At Our Show Last Night

I don't know where you came from, but thank you.

It was about an hour into our show, sometime during our cover of "Somebody's Baby," that you walked up from the other side of the room to our performance area and grabbed the empty tip jar. Our friend Aaron says he didn't see you walk in, but he nearly stopped you until he realized you were carrying the tip jar around the room, asking every guest to contribute something. I can only imagine how sweetly you must have asked people for their money. Although I only saw you for a second, you were the most beautiful blonde goddess in the world and surely no one could resist doing what you asked.

No one did resist, in fact, as we made more money from our tip jar last night than from the venue (and this is a great venue that pays us generously). I don't know if you knew how badly we need money, how difficult it is to be musicians on the road in 2012. I don't even know if you did what you did for us, or simply because you saw an opportunity to test the kindness of others.

Taryn is the lucky one, because she actually got to speak to you for a moment after we finished that song. You brought the jar, now stuffed with ones, fives and even twenties, back to our table and she said, "Thank you, sweetie!" You looked at her as if you didn't understand, so she said "Thank you" once more. Then you smiled at her so warmly, turned and ran away. No one saw you come in, and no one saw you leave. When I asked later in the show if anyone knew "the little girl who passed around our tip jar," or who she was sitting with, no one had any idea where you came from. They only knew what you did.

I think I believe in angels now. And I've never been so certain about anything in my life as I am about this: I will never, ever forget you.

Announcing 2012 Winter Tour!

I'm very happy to announce the kickoff of my 2012 winter tour with Taryn Sprenkle, the Dreaming Lovers Revue! We'll be performing a variety of shows - plugged and unplugged, venue and street corner - all over the west coast in January and February. I'll update this post as more shows are finalized.
